HISTORY

On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, Al Sharpton arrived to St. Louis, MO, to speak at a press conference on the steps of the Old Courthouse about the shooting of eighteen-year-old Michael Brown. To the public, the shooting of Michael Brown was, yet, another alarm, since Trayvon Martin, that urged people to "wake up". To the black community, it was a reminder of the post-racial system that plagues America today involving institutional racism, racial profiling and a stereotypical mentality. To the parents of this eighteen-year-old boy, it meant the loss of their son. Emotions were high the day Al Sharpton spoke as he demanded justice for the act done by Office Darren Wilson. Another African-American male life was lost. Another white-on-black crime was committed. Questions rose of what could be done so that another Michael Brown or Trayvon Martin would not occur again. On that day, Al Sharpton seemed to have all the answers through his reassurance of justice as he stood beside the parents of Michael Brown on the steps of the Old Courthouse.
